About
Nestled in the heart of Juneau, Alaska on Lingít Aaní, Juneau Woolies is more than just a fiber shop—it’s a cozy nook for community, creativity, and art. Dedicated to supporting the local fiber arts community, Juneau Woolies welcomes weavers, knitters, crocheters, spinners, felters, textile artists and yarn enthusiasts of all kinds. Find locally made hand dyed yarn and fibers, tools, notions and fiber art.
Our mission is to support fiber and textile arts that have been passed down for thousands of years, as well as grow modern practices by selling fiber, tools, equipment, supplies and offering classes. We bring people together through yarn, fiber and community.
We value diversity, equity and inclusion. We recognize the daily and continuous effects of colonization here in Alaska and beyond. While being a for-profit business does mean participating in systems designed to harm, we actively work to find small farms, family owned businesses and businesses with ethical practices before looking to big corporations or AI.
From the business owner:
Juneau Woolies began in my kitchen in 2021. I was playing around with dyeing fibers for spinning into yarn, and quickly outgrew my home! There was yarn everywhere. In 2022 Juneau Woolies officially became a business selling hand dyed yarn. In 2023 we joined up with the Heads in the Clouds Studio and shared studio space, hosted activities and events and grew our fiber community in Juneau.
Then I got a little spark to start a retail store and everything quickly fell into place! We opened during an epic snowstorm of 90" of record breaking snowfall. But it worked out, despite some delays, because of the amazing Juneau community.
We are excited to continue growing as a small business!
